What began as a small service helping entrepreneurs file their business paperwork and set up websites evolved after founder Monica Fish launched a full-service creative film production firm, AntiqueHoney. This transition came after she left corporate jobs that felt distant from Ikigai —one’s true purpose.
Helping other entrepreneurs realize their goals in alignment with their bliss became the seed from which Summum Bonum Solutions grew over 20 years ago.
However, the name was officially established by Monica and her mother, Mary, after they attended a healing mass at their family church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Astoria, Queens, shortly before Mary’s passing in 1995. For the greater good was always the moving target to aim for.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a mathematical genius. She often used her accounting background and humor to help small businesses sustain their legacies.
Her natural talent empowered others to be more present in both their businesses and their lives.
To say she inspired it all is an understatement.
"Summum Bonum" means “the ultimate good,” and it is also the title of a poem by Robert Browning that depicts the simplicity of bliss. This phrase later became the inspiration for Monica’s first company, AntiqueHoney. The Rosicrucian symbol on a coin she received bore the Latin phrase "Dat Rosa Mel Apibus", meaning “The Rose Gives Honey to the Bees.” Mary was buried with one of these coins, a reminder of the pact made for the highest good, always.
When I started my first business nearly 20 years ago—just 10 years after my mom’s passing—I needed a notary because it was a legal requirement. I was simply trying to do things the right way. However, that exchange could have gone two ways.
One path would have been just filing the paperwork to ensure I was compliant. The other—the higher good—offered guidance for the next steps.
That professional handed me information on starting my LLC, taxes, and other essential business forms. This helped me take command of my goals and operations, allowing me to repurpose my experience in the music video industry to launch a service-based mindset, including industrial productions and e-learning for professionals.
That simple info packet was a truly priceless offering. It shifted my perspective from working in my business as a photographer and filmmaker to working on my business. In turn, it made me proud to embody the role of Business & Life CEO
I share that toolbox because it bettered my world.
